Playboi Carti’s MUSIC album cover
“Good credit. Now I’m bout to apply for Home Depot credit. Now I gotta $35,000 credit. We gotta temporary receipt. All I gotta do is show it to the cashier and she gone let it side through.”
Playboi Carti’s album MUSIC is good. And that’s not me giving it a chance, no it’s really good. I guess we can start where I first heard Playboi Carti’s music. He was featured on Solange’s album When I Get Home on the song “Almeda” and that’s when it peaked my curiosity. I liked the way his voice sounded and was interested in hearing more but never went to listen to any other songs. Next time I heard him was on Drake’s Dark Lane Demo Tapes on the song “Pain 1993” and I said, okay… yes. Did I go and listen to anything then? No. So I guess third time’s a charm because he was on Kanye’s album, Donda appearing on “Junya” and “Off the Grid”. These features made me say, okay, the next album I’ll listen to it. Low and behold, we have MUSIC.
Carti is a very interesting person. He’s a rapper from Atlanta but he doesn’t have the typical Atlanta sound which I think is the point. He reminds me more of a mix between Lil Uzi and Young Thug which I think is actually good for Atlanta - just to give us some diversity with our sound. Apparently, Carti is very well-known in Atlanta but for someone who isn’t tuned in to this side of Atlanta’s music scene, it’s a really good introductory album.
One thing that may turn you off from listening to the album is the length of the album. This is Carti’s first album since 2020 and it was highly anticipated — Carti generously gave us 30 songs with a runtime of 1:16:00. So I get it if you were intimidated by the length and because of that, I’m here to share my favorites off this album. I even made it easy for you by making this playlist. You’re welcome.

I've listened to this album probably three times in its entirety since its release which helped me pick out my favorites for this playlist. I love the bass throughout the album, the catchy melodies, the voice switch-ups and the features are nicely placed. For this to be my first Carti album, I’m impressed. I went into listening to this album with absolutely no expectations which I feel really benefitted me as I had nothing but a few songs to go off of and those were features. And not to mention he sampled one of my favorite Atlanta groups on LIKE WEEZY.
Overall, I really enjoy listening to this album and I hope you give it a chance like I did.
